World Veterinary Day Celebrated in Nepal

The 13th World Veterinary Day 2013 in the theme “Vaccination to Prevent and Protect” was commemorated today with grand celebrations by Nepal Veterinary Association and Directorate of Animal Health. A mass rally with musical bands, playcards, banners was organized from Veterinary Complex Tripureshwor and procession was made around the town covering Tripureshwor, Thapathali, Maitighar Mandala.

Mass procession concluded in to a formal gathering where eminent personalities from Veterinary and Animal Science Fraternity made their remarks. Among them were President of Nepal Veterinary Association Dr. Bimal Kumar Nirmal, President of Nepal Veterinary Council Dr. Dhan Raj Ratala, Principal of Himalayan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (HICAST) Dr. K.B. Shrestha, Chief of Central Biologicals Production Lab Dr. Suderson Prasad Gautam, Deputy Director General Dr. Ram Krishna Khatiwada, Program Director of Animal Health Directorate Dr. Vijay Kant Jha, Senior Veterinarian Dr. Tej Bahadur Basnyat, Former President of Nepal Para Veterinary and Livestock Association Mr. Lok Raj Bhusal, Animal Health Scientist Dr. Chet Raj Upreti.

In the same program Nepal Veterinary Association felicitated newly elected and nominated members of Nepal Veterinary Council. President of the Association Dr. Bimal Kumar Nirmal presented a certificate and a shawl to all the council members.

Similar programs were conducted in Pokhara, Chitwan, Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Itahari and Biratnagar. To commemorate the day programs were conducted on nationwide basis under “one district one program” mission. World Veterinary Day is celebrated every last Saturday of April and was instigated by World Veterinary Association in 2000. Every Year World Veterinary Day award is provided by World Veterinary Association and Nepal Veterinary Association successfully bagged the award in the year 2009.
