We are glad to inform you that Nepal Veterinary Association announces nomination call for NVA member individuals for the WVA Global Veterinary Awards of 2025
Since the deadline to nominate is the 26th of February 2025 and only nominations submitted through Nepal Veterinary Association will be accepted so individuals interested can follow the link and follow the requirement criteria like eligibility etc and apply to NVA via nveta2024@gmail.com by 20th of February 2025.

 

Note that since only WVA members (like Nepal Veterinary Association) can nominate, individual applicants will not be entertained by WVA.

 

The WVA Global Veterinary Awards, supported by Ceva, are a great opportunity that enables the WVA membership to recognize 4 veterinarians and 1 student for their outstanding contribution to One Health, Medicines Stewardship, Animal Welfare and Veterinary Education!

One overall winner - the Veterinarian of the Year - will be chosen from among the winners of the categories One Health, Medicines Stewardship, Animal Welfare and Veterinary Education. 

The WVA Global Veterinary Awards Ceremony will be held during WVAC2025 in Washington DC, US, July of 2025.

Details on WVA Global Veterinary Awards

Eligibility

Only WVA members can nominate for the WVA Global Veterinary Awards (categories One Health, Animal Welfare, Medicines Stewardship and Veterinary Education) and WVA will consider that the nominations made by its member present exceptional individuals who are well regarded by their communities and whose contributions are well known and relevant. Present WVA Officers (Past President, President and President Elect) are not eligible. President, past President and current officers of IVSA are not eligible for the category of Veterinary Student of the Year.

Categories

The WVA Global Veterinary Awards comprise 4 categories, one overall winner out of the four and the Veterinary Student of the Year. For the categories One Health, Animal Welfare, Medicines or Veterinary Education, nominees should be exceptional individual veterinarians with an outstanding contribution to any of the four categories, as described below.

One Health – One Health is an integrated, unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems. It recognizes the health of humans, domestic and wild animals, plants, and the wider environment (including ecosystems) are closely linked and inter-dependent.

Animal Welfare – Animal Welfare is defined in the WOAH Terrestrial Code as ‘the physical and mental state of an animal in relation to the conditions in which it lives and dies.’ Contemplating 5 freedoms: freedom from hunger malnutrition and thirst, freedom from fear and distress, freedom from heat stress or physical discomfort, freedom from pain, injury and disease, freedom to express normal patterns of behavior.

Medicine Stewardship – The effective, responsible, safe, and sustainable use of medication and vaccines, while fostering steady accessibility.

Veterinary Education – Graduate, postgraduate and continuous education of veterinarians, including on emerging topics.

Criteria

Nominators: only WVA members can nominate for the Categories: One Health, Animal Welfare, Medicines Stewardship or Veterinary Education. Nominations and voting for the Veterinary Student of the Year are handled by IVSA: https://www.ivsa.org/

Nominees: must be veterinarians for the categories One Health, Animal Welfare, Medicines Stewardship or Veterinary Education. Must be veterinary students from year 4 and above for the Veterinary Student of the year award. Submission of all required documentation through the designated form, namely: support letter from the WVA members (minimum 1 letter, max 3, uploaded as 1 pdf file), CV or Bio of the nominee, portfolio of activities from the nominee (pertaining to the category of the application), a motivation letter signed by the nominee, a video of the nominee introducing themselves (in a url).

Evaluation

Three appointed members from each of the four WVA Working Group (WG) will review each of the applications for the corresponding category and an average scoring will be found. A numerical system of scoring will be used for the evaluation of the different required documents of the nomination, as follows: -

  • Support letter from one of the WVA members – from 1 to 3 (1 extra point for each extra letter) (all letters in one PDF)
  • CV or Bio of the nominee – from 1 to 3 (maximum 2 A4 pages)
  • Portfolio of activities from the nominee (pertaining to the category of the application) - from 1 to 10 (maximum of 10 pages) 
  • Motivation letter of the nominee – from 1 to 3
  • The video – from 1 to 3 (max 1 min) 
  • Any other relevant information can also be added

Evaluation and scoring will be carried out by electronic means in a dedicated platform. WG members from the same countries as the nominees will be excused from reviewing them and another member of the WG will be designated in their stead to avoid conflicts of interest. The Chairs of the WG may appoint Evaluators directly or by opening calls of interest.

Winners and Prizes

Once the winners are identified, WVA and Ceva will not accept any disputes regarding their recognition. As winners, they will receive:

1. Promotional content: winners are required to participate in the production of a video that will introduce and promote them. The video will be used online ahead of and during the ceremony. Filming is expected to take one full day, and no compensation will be provided by WVA or Ceva for their time.

2. Attendance at the WVA Awards Ceremony during the WVAC2025: Winners are expected to attend the WVA Awards ceremony, which will take place in Washington DC, US, at the Convention Center on July 19, 2025, in conjunction with the WVA Congress 2025 and the AVMA Convention 2025. Travel (economy class, booked early through WVA’s travel agent), accommodation (3 nights at a hotel designated by WVA), and registration for the Congress/Convention will be covered by WVA and Ceva.

3. Monetary prize: The monetary prize will be transferred to the winners' bank accounts within two weeks after the ceremony, provided they have submitted the necessary banking information, including SWIFT or international banking details. Any banking costs associated with this transfer will be the responsibility of the awardee
